Piper, 47, will report to Tom Stephens, Group vice president, GM Powertrain and Fritz Henderson, Chairman of GM Europe. The appointments are effective August 1. 'David's broad experience in product engineering, as well as his experience within Allison Transmission make him ideally suited for this assignment,' said Stephens. Piper joined GM in 1976 as a co-op student at Hydramatic in Ypsilanti, Mich. In 1995, he was named chief engineer of International Transmissions and later transferred to GM's Allison Transmission Division in Indianapolis, as chief engineer of commercial transmissions, and in 2001, he was appointed general director of product engineering in Fiat-GM Powertrain. In 2003, Piper was named vice president of product engineering. With the establishment of GM Powertrain Europe, he was appointed executive director of product engineering. He has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University and an MBA from Michigan State University. Forst joined GM in 1977 at Adam Opel AG. She has held positions in product engineering, manufacturing engineering as chief engineer of manufacturing engineering and chassis with Adam Opel AG. She was appointed director of engineering in Fiat-GM Powertrain and later appointed managing director of the German legal entity for Powertrain. With the establishment of GM Powertrain Europe, she was appointed executive director of product engineering and managing director in Germany. She has a master degree of mechanical engineering from FH Darmstadt. Daniel Nicholson, 41, succeeds Forst as director of product engineering in Germany. Nicholson has been chief engineer of the small-block engine program at GM Powertrain; his replacement will be announced later. General Motors Corp.
